About Me

From as far back as I can remember, I loved creating things. I could sit for hours and hours making something.
My earliest memory was of my God Parents coming to take me out for the day. I was about five years old, at the time. We went out to eat, had ice cream, and went to the candy store. At the candy store they told me that I could get anything I wanted. I picked out a coloring book and crayons, and of course some candy. I think that was my first experience of falling in-love. I was in love with my coloring book and crayons. I took them everywhere with me. I even slept with them, and I wouldn't let anyone near them.
I grew up in a family of seven: four brothers, one sister, and my single mom. We lived in the South Bronx, for most of my childhood. To say that we were poor, is an understatement. We had a full time mom and a part time father. We got our extras from family members and Catholic Charities. Getting a coloring book and crayons, was a luxury.
I loved going to school, because I knew I could get art supplies there, and I could lose myself and shut out all the ugliness around me, if only for a brief time.
When I was about seven years old, a relative gave me a paint-by-numbers set. There were two canvases in the set, a girl and a boy fishing. I worked on those paintings everyday and when I was finished I showed then to everybody. Then one day my father came to visit, and he bought both of my paintings, for $20.00. I was thrilled for both the sale and the only good memory I have of my father. I think that was the point I knew that I wanted to sell my art. I learned one thing growing up, if I wanted something badly enough I had to work hard to get it.
When I was nine years old, I meet my grandmother. I can only describe her as a Pro-Crocheter. She was amazing, and I just drank all her talent in, soaked it all up. I would sit and watch her for hours, crocheting. That's when I caught the crochet bug. We didn't have money for yarn, so I would use string, thread, stripes of material, odds and ends from my grandmas yarn basket, and anything else that I could find, and I loved it like I loved my coloring book and crayons. After High School, I tried to teach myself a new craft every year. I taught myself a lot of different things from: painting landscapes and seascapes (no paint-by-numbers this time), to stained glass, embroidery, tatting, paper crafts, string art, jewelry making, Intarsia Crochet, and many other things too long to list here. I don't really use my creativeness to escape anymore, but I still get pure pleasure when I create something. I get even more joy when they are appreciated by others. I always wanted the world to see my creations, and now they do, on the net. I've working for a long time honing my skills and I will work for the rest of my life on my crafts. I've also found that I love creating new websites, and my mind is overflowing with new ideas.
I'm no longer a poor, slum  kid. I'm taking my coloring book and crayons, and showing the world what I can create.

Thank you for stopping by, and I hope to see you again soon. I hope that you'll enjoy my site, as much as I did creating it.
